A couple months ago, EnBo asked me to photograph his proposal to Bethany! I was quite excited because I had known Bethany since her freshman year at Pacific. You know what? I think Proposal photography is my new favorite photography genre!
It has been torturous being mindful not to spoil the surprise to anybody that knew Bethany, especially Bethany herself. Of course, I kept running into them at Pacific events and friends’ weddings. The day before the actual proposal date, I scouted Auberge du Soleil in Napa, California and foolishly Snapchatted the beautiful scenery. Bethany, of all people, saw my post and messaged me that she was visiting Napa as well. She had no clue. I expressed how sad I was that I would miss her and hoped to see her soon. Crisis averted.
The following day, I drove up to Napa again for the actual proposal. IT WAS ABOUT 95˚ IN NAPA. I hid in a pagoda that overlooked the bench where EnBo had planned to propose to Bethany. This pagoda had beautiful opaque sliding door panels, essentially acting as a green house. It felt like Bikram yoga without the yoga.
Anyway, after a gorgeous day of wine tasting and exploring, EnBo and Bethany arrived at the bench that was beautifully prepared with figs, candies, wine, and cheese spread by the Auberge du Soleil staff .
EnBo began his speech, Bethany was crying, and the angels were singing. I switched my shutter to “quiet mode”, hoping I wouldn’t ruin the mood with obnoxious shutter snapping and give away my secret location. It was a huge success because Bethany had no clue!
After Bethany said YES (yay!), EnBo revealed my secret location and we all started laughing really hard. “Randall?! You’re here too?!?”
Bethany was beaming. She couldn’t stop smiling 🙂
and of course, I had to do my beloved ring shots!
My favorite is how Bethany looks at EnBo- I could tell that she absolutely loves and adores him:
A huge congratulations to EnBo and Bethany!!! Thanks for having me as your photographer 🙂
